The story “Thirty-Nine Steps” from John Buchan has many exciting and dangerous plots. The story talks about Hannay who heard from a man named Scudder that an agency called Black Stone is trying to start a war. Hannay is assigned and trusted by Scudder to stop this, because he is being chased by Black Stone because he knows their plan. Hannay then runs away after Scudder's death, he then goes to Scudder’s friend, because he is a military general who can help. They plan something to stop Black Stone, but there were spies in the meeting. But once they noticed, they were unable to catch them all, starting World War I. My favorite plot was the final plot of the book, which talks about Hannay, trying to stop the spies for the Black Stone from getting away and telling them their plan. When Hannay gets onto a ship, he sees three suspicious men, and figures they are the imposter. So he talks with them, and they try to convince him that they are not the imposter. But at the end Hannay rats them out, but one had escaped, and just a few weeks later World War I had started.

Suspicion is when you are thinking that someone or something is lying. Detectives use suspicion to help them get a suspect, whenever they think or feel like the suspect is lying, or missing a part he uses suspicion. Hannay uses suspicion by talking to the three men in the ship, he sees their accent and how they talk. He finally notices that it was them, because when one of the men had a suspicious beat of his finger tapping he had figured out that these were spies for Black Stone, so then he called his friends to arrest them, but failed to capture all of them. Many people in the world use suspicion to their advantage because we can sense it sometimes, not only detectives use suspicion, other people also use them, like cops who are trying to interrogate someone for doing something that they may think the person did. Parents also interrogate people like their children, if they are lying to them, they might be suspicious of the child. Suspicion is a great way to interrogate someone when they do something wrong, like the spies, Hannay interrogates using suspicion.

Courage is when you are brave and willingly want to help somebody even if it comes with consequences. Courage is what we use when we want to face something dangerous like a bear or a snake. Hannay uses courage to fight and confront the spies from getting away, and has a talk with them, even though they might fight him. He also shows courage when he can't see anything in the ship, but still tries to capture the spies, even though he could have gotten seriously hurt. When we use courage we bring a lot of bravery with us, and we may use it in some of our jobs, because it is a risky world, and it comes with many deaths. A firefighter might use courage to go to a fire to help the citizens that are stuck in the place. A policeman might use courage to go in a forest to look for someone that could come with many threats such as bears. The policeman also uses courage when they are trying to stop someone who did something bad, and may have a gun. We can use courage for many things to help the world, like how Hannay uses courage to try to stop the spies.

Intelligence is when we use our knowledge to help us with things we do. Intelligence is what we use in school anywhere, we can calculate many things with intelligence but also figure things out with intelligence, like puzzles. Hannay uses Intelligence to figure out who the imposters are, in the meeting he figured out clues like a puzzle. He also used his intelligence to figure the imposter out on the ship, because after a talk with them he remembered the tap of a finger. We use intelligence in everyday life, we use it while driving or school, during driving we need to remember all the signs on the road, or else we may get in a car accident. In school we use our knowledge to form a good intelligence, to help us in our future life. We also use intelligence in many other things like science. We use it to memorize chemicals, and also we use it to measure things. We use it in sports too, we can look at the ball and use our intelligence to pass it to someone. We use intelligence everywhere, in our daily life, and we use it like Hannay did.

The story “Thirty-Nine Steps” talks about Hannay trying to stop Black Stone who is trying to start a war. My favorite part of the story was the last plot, where Hannay stops the spies for Black Stone but fails to capture them all. Hannay uses courage to catch them, because he had enough courage to go and confront the three men. He also used suspicion to his advantage, because on the ship he saw the three men and was suspicious about them and eventually caught them. Hannay uses intelligence to help him because he remembered tapping a finger from the men, and figured out they are the spies. The story “Thirty-Nine Steps" is a great story with many great plots.
