Story Review of Officer Buckle and Gloria

Mr. Buckle is good at finding safety tips, so he knows a lot of them. But when he tries to share his safety tips, nobody ever listens.

The story Officer Buckle and Gloria written by Peggy Rathmann talks about a story between Officer Buckle and the police dog Gloria. Officer Buckle knew a lot of safety tips that he made a speech to kids but no one listened to him. Later, he got a police dog named Gloria. Gloria did tricks on stage and people started to pay attention. But Officer discovered no one was looking at him, so he refused to give a speech. Then the biggest accident happened. Officer Buckle decided to continue to give a safety speech with Gloria and he made the best safety tip: always stick with your buddy.

Teamwork is very useful. It helps us achieve something we cannot do by ourselves. To team up, you need to find a person who has different advantages from you, so you can combine your strengths to make the team better. Then you can achieve something that you cannot do by yourself. In the story, Officer Buckle and dog Gloria are good teammates. Gloria helped Officer Buckle get the audience’s attention and Officer Buckle gave the speech. This shows that they found the right partner to team up with. They can do different things and their advantage is each other’s disadvantage. In the right condition, teamwork is wonderful. It helps us have more advantages.

Good speech is important because it makes people remember what we tell them. We need a loud voice so the audience can hear us. We need to find a good topic and have a well-prepared script so we might not forget what we want to say. We also need to find a way to make the audience listen to us. In the story, Officer Buckle used his dog Gloria as an attraction so everyone listened carefully. He also gave his speech with plenty of expression. This speech turned out to be very successful because everybody followed the safety rule after the speech.  As you can see, some tips are important to make a good speech. We need to use these tips to make the audience have a good impression on the speech.

Observation and the accumulation of life experience are important because they make our life safer. If we notice something we might trip on, we can try to avoid it. If something bad happens to us, our life experience is accumulated and this will help us in the future. In the story, Officer Buckle noticed the potential dangers, so he gave the safety speech and there was no more accident after his speech. If he didn’t observe carefully, there would be more accidents. This proves that observation is important. Observation makes our life more comfortable, safe, and easy. Accumulation of life also helps us enjoy a better life under certain circumstances. 

In the story, no one listens to Officer Buckle until he gets a police dog as his teammate to give the speech together. In the end, he realized that the most important safety tip is to always stick with your buddy. There are many dangers in life, so we need to observe carefully and use our life experience to avoid them. Sometimes we have problems that we cannot solve by ourselves, so we need to team up with someone else. To invite others, we need to give a good speech, so we need to learn some good speech skills.
