Story Review of Officer Buckle and Gloria

Mr. Buckle is good at finding safety tips, so he knows a lot of them. But when he tries to share his safety tips, nobody ever listens.

Genre: Fiction

The story Officer Buckle and Gloria written by Peggy Rathmann talks about teamwork between Officer Buckle and his dog Gloria. Officer Buckle knew a lot of safety tips but no one in the school ever listened in the beginning. So Officer Buckle brought police dog Gloria together with him to give the speech. Gloria did some tricks while Officer Buckle shared the safety tips. More schools invited Officer Buckle to give speeches because there was no single accident after he gave that speech.  But Officer Buckle refused because he found out Gloria got all the attention. Later the biggest accident happened. After that, Officer Buckle went back to give speeches and he thought of the best tip yet: always stick with your buddy.

Teamwork is important, especially when we are having trouble doing something. It’s necessary when we try to do something challenging.  Everyone has advantages and disadvantages, so we can cooperate with each other to avoid those disadvantages and achieve bigger goals. We can finish  more challenging tasks that we can’t  do by teamwork. In the story, Officer Buckle knew a lot of safety tips and Gloria was good at getting the audience’s attention. They made a team to give a speech, so the speech was a huge success and there wasn’t a single accident after the speech. They got this huge success because they used their advantages and avoided their disadvantages. Mr Buckle was not good at getting attention while Gloria was good at it. Gloria didn’t know any safety tips while Mr. Buckle knew a lot. Good cooperation makes a team easier to achieve their goals. Every team member will also feel happy, satisfied and valuable in their work.

A good speech helps others understand what we are trying to say. We need some skills to attract the audience's attention and remember our speech. We need to talk loudly and act confident, and we need to make your audience listen carefully to us. We can do that by using gestures, expressions and emotions, sometimes we may use props. In the story, in the beginning, nobody listened to Officer Buckle because his speech was boring. Later, Officer Buckle got everybody to listen to him because his dog was sitting and dancing next to him. After the speech, everybody followed the safety rules so there wasn’t a single accident. This proves that getting the audience to pay attention can be useful. People will remember what we are talking about. Clearly, good speech skills are required when we are trying to do a good speech, and the audience will understand better. 

Observations and accumulation of life experience are useful. They make our life safer and better. We can try to avoid some dangerous situations and risk actions if we observe our environment carefully. Even if we encounter something dangerous, it can be part of our life experience and will help us in the future. In the story, Officer Buckle made a lot of observations and made lots of safety tips out of them. These tips were very useful for the children. If no one shares these safety tips, teachers and children will have a lot of accidents and trouble in school. As long as they observe carefully, they will notice these dangers and keep safe. Therefore, observations and accumulations of life experience are great at helping us stay safe and happy. It’s a good thing to have a good habit of observing carefully and accumulating our life experience.

 Officer Buckle had a hard time getting the audience to listen to him when he gave the safety tips speech. But he worked with the dog Gloria and they succeeded. The speech was a huge success and there wasn't a single accident after the speech. As you can see, teamwork is very important because cooperation helps us use our advantages and avoid our disadvantages. Speech skills are very essential when trying to make a good team. Everyone should observe carefully and accumulate our life experience to get a safer life.
