The story Meet Rosina by George Ancona is about a deaf girl named Rosina, who is deaf. She goes to a special school where she learns and plays with her friends. Rosina uses American Sign Language to talk and share ideas with others. At school, she studies many things like reading, math, and science. Rosina also loves to do fun activities like painting and going outside. The story shows how Rosina communicates with her teacher and classmates, and how happy she feels. Even though Rosina cannot hear, her life is very much like ours. She does a lot of the same things we do at school and at home.
At school, Rosina learns just like we do. Her school has math, writing, reading, and art. They also have sports classes where the students run, move, and have fun.In our school, we have math, English, Chinese, music, and art.We also have sports every day.Such as soccer , running, and basketball. In the story, when they were in second grade, they could make up a story and publish it. How interesting! Rosina’s school even has a library and a librarian! She and her friends can share stories and learn about new things. I like that, because our school has a library too.Look, our schools are very similar.
At home, Rosina’s life is very much like ours again. Her family takes baths and changes clothes at home, just like in my family. They cook meals together, and Rosina practices her cooking skills.I often cook some eggs or burgers with my mom. I love cooking! I think it’s fun when families cook together. After dinner, they all laugh and play chess together as a family. In my family, we do things like that too—we spend time together after dinner, and sometimes we play games or walk.Rosina’s life is just like the way we live.
Rosina’s mom and her aunt both have jobs. They work at Rosina’s school as teacher’s helpers. In fact, I think everybody in her family has a job. They earn money, and that helps their family buy what they need. Having a job is important because it helps families live well and be better.Everybody needs a job.Just like in my family, my dad has a company. My mom takes care of me very well. When I was sick, she was a nurse. When I was learning, she was a teacher. When I was hungry, she was a chef. When I was at school, she was a cleaner at home. So, she has lots of work in my family. We are similar to Rosina.
Rosina has a big family, they can get married and have babies, just like anyone else. But even though a lot of her family members are deaf , they cannot hear, they have a very loving, happy family. They use sign language to talk with each other. They also share smiles, laugh, and play, just like any other family. I think that’s wonderful.I also have a big family.I have grandparents, my mom and dad,I also have a brother. He is 11 years old. We love each other very much.So Rosina’s life is like ours again.
Even though Rosina is deaf, she can do so many things! If we meet someone who is deaf, we can help them by being friendly, by learning a little sign language, or by writing things down. We should never leave them out. Deaf people can do sports, play games, learn at school, make a living, and have a big family just like us.I think Meet Rosina teaches us an important lesson: no matter if someone can hear or not, we can all be friends and learn from each other. We should include everyone, because we are all the same.
