Character: Mouse, Snake and Hedgehog
Setting: In the Wild
Genre: Fantasy
Plot: Mouse is hiding from Snake.
Help! A Story of Friendship is written by Holly Keller. It talks about a story of friendship. Mouse, Hedgehog, Snake, Rabbit, and Squirrel are friends. Hedgehog finds Mouse hiding leaves because Mouse hears gossip from Skunk that Snake is treacherous to him. Mouse is so nervous that he falls into a deep hole and hurts his foot when they go for a walk. Mouse’s other friends do their best to help Mouse, but they can’t help Mouse. At last, Snake uses a different way to get Mouse out, and Mouse feels apologetic and appreciative of Snake.
Firstly, I learned that true friendship will last forever and is never changed by gossip, environment, age, time, or other things. A true friend says nothing in normal times but does his/her best to help you when you are in trouble, no matter how others judge your friendship. In the story, Snake doesn’t care about the gossip of Skunk and does his best to help Mouse when Mouse falls into a deep hole, and others can’t help it. Because Snake thinks Mouse is his best friend, no matter how others say anything, he wants to help Mouse escape the hole. A real friend always appears when you need his/her help.
Secondly, I learned that we should show appreciation in time when someone helps us when we are in trouble because they are true friends. Maybe a bouquet of flowers, a gift, or other things he/she needs, even a hug. In the story, Mouse gives Snake a bouquet of flowers after his foot can move again to show his gratitude because Snake helps him. Mouse does this right because not everyone is born to help you. We need to have a thankful heart and express our gratitude to the person who helps us.
Last but not least, I learned that gossip is not good because it can break people’s relationships or friendships. If your friends trust the gossip, they might not want to be friends with you anymore, and it will hurt your heart, make you feel inadequate, and even affect your work and life. In the story, Mouse hears gossip from Fox and believes that Snake is dangerous to him, and falls into the deep hole and hurts his foot. Mouse doesn’t do it right because it makes Snake feel less trust. The wise will not listen to gossip, so we should learn how to judge gossip or truth.
From this book, I learned three things. Firstly, true friendship will last forever and is never changed by gossip, environment, age, time, or other things. Secondly, we should show appreciation in time when someone helps us when we are in trouble because they are true friends. Last but not least, gossip is not good because it can break people’s relationships or friendships. This book teaches me many things. I hope you can read it with your friends or parents. You will have a lot of ideas about friendship, appreciation, and gossip after you read it.
