Story Review of All Summer in a Day

 The book “All Summer in a Day” written by Ray Bradbury talks about Margot getting bullied by her other classmates. On Mars Margot moved with her parents when she was only four. On Mars the rain keeps on going but once every seven years for two hours there is no rain. Margot is a young girl at the age of nine she still remembers the sun because she used to live on earth. Her classmates do not believe her and bully her for saying such a thing. So on the day where the rain was stopping for two hours Margot was pushed inside of a closet because she was being alone and she didn’t talk to the other kid. William and the other classmates pushed her in the closet before the rain stopped and the teacher did not noticed Margot just stayed silent and cried. When everyone left they had forgotten about Margot and kept on playing in the sun, but when the rain came back, they went in and suddenly remembered Margot. Scared and ashamed, the classmates carefully opened the door and in silence, Margot came out sad and in sorrow.

Everyone will see a different person as we move on through life, this is because people have different ideas, thinking styles, and personality. People are different because human nature made us that way, we all have different natural ideas, and different personalities. Margot is different because she is from Earth, and since she was on Earth to when she was four years old she had remembered the sun and how bright it was. She was also different from everyone else because everyone was born on Mars, while she was born on Earth and waited for four years to then come to Mars. Everyone is different and it is okay to be different from everyone else, because if we are not different then the world will all be the same. It is good to be different. That is why we have so many different jobs, like an artist or a police cop. Without us being different we will never have all of these different jobs and different lives. This is why when we are different it is good, so we can have different lives and not be the same as everyone else. 

When we are jealous we act in many different ways, we can be rude or we can just forget it. When we are jealous we should not act in hostility but in kindness and love. The classmates are jealous of Margot because of her possible future of going back to Earth, while they have to stay on Mars. They also are jealous of her because she may get to see the sun next year, while they wait for seven more years. This causes them to bully her and push her into the closet making her miss the rare stop of rain and do other mean stuff to her. When we are jealous we should not be mean to others, because if you do something bad you will regret it and feel guilty of it. Say if someone is jealous of another kid, and it was the kid's birthday, so the bully decided to ruin his birthday by being extra mean to him, he will feel guilty of what he did, and had wished he had never done it. This is why when we are jealous we should not act in meanness and bully but instead you should act to be kind to them and just forget about it. 

When you do not see something you may not believe it, when someone tells you it is true. When you are trying to be convinced that something is true you need evidence or you need to see the thing for yourself. Margot had said that she saw the sun and how bright and shiny it was, because she was from earth. But her classmates believe she is lying because they did not see it and only saw it when they were young so they did not remember, but because Margot was at Earth then to mars she had seen the sun when she was four. This is another reason why she is being bullied because her classmates do not believe her and think she is lying. When people, like a judge, are trying to convince someone of a bad crime, then the judge needs evidence, or needs to see that crime. When someone is trying to be convinced that something has happened, and that the person he or she is talking to only knows, then the person needs evidence to see just like the children want to see. This is why some of the kids are biased towards Margot. 

The story All summer in a Day talks about Margot and how she is bullied, and when she is bullied she misses a very crucial event. Margot is different from everyone else; she has a different background than everyone else, and so do the other kids they have different backgrounds to. Margot though was from Earth and came to Mars at the age of five. Jealousy should be controlled, because when jealousy is not controlled then you may be mean to others. Margot’s bully is jealous of her because she was from Earth and how that she may go back to Earth and see the sun again and they will not but instead wait for another seven years. When you do not see something that somebody tells you, you do not believe it. Margot’s bullies do not believe that she remembers the sun because they do not remember it, meaning that she would be no different, but since she was on Earth she did remember the sun. The story All Summer in a Day is a great story that talks about a sad life, and takes us to maybe the future.
