The story “Mystic Horse,” written by Paul Goble, talks about a boy who was very poor and who lived with his grandma. The boy couldn’t join the buffalo hunts because he didn’t have a horse. Luckily, he found a horse, but it was old and sick. One day, some enemies came, and men rode out to meet them. The boy followed them, but he got mocked. Then, something strange happened: the horse began to talk. With the help of the horse, the boy won the battle and was honored, but the horse died, and the boy was heartbroken. Luckily, it suddenly revived after some time, and the boy was once more energetic. The boy’s situation was complicated, so we should try to understand it.
People should help others in need, but the boy didn’t receive others’ help. Some people are poor or in a bad situation, and they usually get shunned by others, which is unfair. Instead, we should try to help them, because every life matters, and even poor people might someday support society. In the story, the boy and his grandma were inadequate and didn’t have many things, because they didn’t have a horse for the boy to join the buffalo hunts; still, others didn’t share things with them. If others had helped them, their lives would have been easier, they would have been strong, and they could have contributed to their village. So, the boy and his grandma needed more kindness, and others should give them kindness.
The boy was also ambitious and brave because he didn’t want to be mocked by others. Sometimes, even though someone is in a troubling situation, they can be as courageous as we are. This bravery usually comes when people are led into a difficult situation and yearn to have a better life. The people or person who caused the problems are at fault here for making the victim miserable. In the story, the boy was poor and had a seemingly poor horse; everyone laughed at him, but he was brave and determined to fight off the enemies. The boy’s actions show that he didn’t want others to look down on him; instead, he wanted others to praise him. The people also disrespected the boy who was at fault here, because they forced him between a rock and a hard place. So, the boy’s ambition was to be respected; therefore, he tried his best to be strong.
Lack of knowledge can be dangerous, and the boy was not fully informed and accidentally killed his horse. Sometimes accidents happen because of good intentions or because of traits like curiosity. We shouldn’t blame the one who did it, because they didn’t do it on purpose. In the story, the boy was over-confident and wanted to hit the enemy one more time, even though his horse told him not to, and ended up causing the horse’s death. The boy wasn’t actually at fault here, because the horse didn’t specify the consequences of hitting the enemy more than four times, so he didn’t know everything, and ended up killing the horse. So, it wasn’t the boy’s fault that the horse died.
In conclusion, this story shows a boy’s situation using his actions, society, and spiritual world. This boy was poor, alone, and mocked, but he didn’t receive help from others. His determination and courage emerged when he didn’t want to be mocked. Also, his horse died, but it wasn’t his fault. There are also a few themes in the story. First, we should help those in need. Second, bravery and ambition can come to people in a tricky situation. Lastly, accidents can happen when we don’t know everything and are careless. Overall, the boy wasn’t at fault here.
