The story “Lighting Lives” talks about a girl named Debby helping Arizona people to get electricity from the sun using solar panels. There was no electricity at Debby’s home in Arizona when she was young. At age 10, Debby and her family moved to a new home where it had electricity, and Debby liked it. Because Debby liked electricity, she wanted to learn more about it. Debby studied the knowledge of solar power and learned to change sunlight into electricity. Then Debby used what she had learned and worked on solar power to find solutions for those who have no electricity. Arizona has a lot of sun. It would not be too costly for Arizona people to use the sun’s power. Because of poverty, Debby traveled everywhere to help Arizona people borrow money from banks to buy solar panels so they can collect sunlight to make electricity. She also taught people how to use solar power. Sometimes Debby felt lonely when she was driving her truck from place to place because no one was riding with her. But Debby believed it was the right thing to do because she was lighting up people’s lives. Debby not only helps people turn darkness into brightness but also makes people happier. Debby loves her job.
I want to be a math teacher when I grow up. I love to do math problems. I feel pride when I solve difficult math questions. Everyday I play Beast Academy and I am now in Beast Academy level 3. It is fun to play math games with my family. At school I watch my mom teach her students, and the class is fun and playing games. I want to be a math teacher just like my mom. To become a math teacher, I need to learn a lot of math knowledge and skills. I also need to grasp math concepts and principles and practice them. The most important thing is that I need to learn the reasoning behind each math knowledge and skills. I cannot just memorize the facts. I have to get logical thinking completely. I also need to learn how to explain my thinking so other people can understand if they need my help. Being a math teacher is not just a job. Some kids think math is difficult because they don’t understand math ideas. When I become a math teacher, I want to find an easy and fun way. This not only makes the math learning exciting but also helps them get the math concepts. Once students can understand the math ideas, they will become confident in math about themselves. So when they go to Safeway or Target, they can use math knowledge to solve real life questions. Maybe my future students will want to be a math teacher like me.
