In the story, there is a old man who is heading back home, and finds a dog getting harassed by other dogs. He brings the wounded dog home, and cares for it. This then brings him back to when he was little. In his days, he really wanted a dog, not just any dog, a hunting hound. Their family was poor back then and the hounds were very expensive. Billy saves up money selling goods to people, and gives the money to his grandpa who orders it for him. Billy named the hounds, Little Ann, and Old Dan. They had many adventures together.

Hard work always gets paid off, no matter how small it is, it will always get paid off. It is just like working for money, even the jobs with the least salary, will always get paid. In the story, Billy wanted a hound really bad, but his father couldn’t afford, it so he works very hard, and at the end Billy has enough money to buy two hounds. I think that is right, Billy knows that laziness will not get paid off but hard work will, so he works hard, and achieves his goal. A lazy person is one who lies on his bed and thinks he had won the lottery, and achieved all of his goals.

Don’t judge a book by its cover, the outside only tells us about how it looks but the inside tells us a whole different story. Someone might be beautiful on the outside but ugly on the inside, this means that they might be nice and pretty on the outside, but very mean on the inside. In the story, The kids from town mocked not because of his knowledge, probably because of his looks. But even if he looks like the others from town, it doesn’t mean that he is mean, and is going to be a threat. A beautiful but selfish girl, is just an ugly girl with a mean heart.

Never give up, if one gives up all the progress he or she had made would be wasted. For example, if someone is learning how to swim, he tries, and tries but only knows one style he is anxious, and quits. He then forgets everythings, and has to start all over again. In the story, despite the insulting of the kids from, from town, Billy didn’t care, he did get damaged, but he believed in himself, and achieved his dream. I think that is good, because words are powerful, and sometimes insults could leave a scar on someone, the person might feel discouraged, and sad, but Billy decided to brush it off and keep going. Giving up just proves that a weak person is really weak after all.

In conclusion I think that this story is good because it teaches us many lessons like, hard work always gets paid off, don’t judge a book by its cover, and never give up. Personally as a person who has “the dog wanting disease” I understand the situation of Billy, and like how he tells the story. This story inspired me to not give up, and work hard. The only thing I dislike is that the part when Ruben died falling on the axe, I think that it is a little violent, and should not be included. Thanks for reading this story review, and I hope you can share the themes to others, and it might inspire them too.
